My Week in Five

It’s been a quick week on this end, mostly been working hard both at my two jobs (freelance and office), as well as writing my pilot.

As of today I’ve finally finished Act Two (YESSS!) and more importantly, gained momentum to keep driving forward to the finish line to have a first draft by Friday. Will update when I am basking in the warm glow of that light at the end of this tunnel! But in the meantime, here’s my week:

“Today I Can Do Anything”

On my lunch breaks I’ve been taking walks around the unfamiliar terrain of Century City. It’s fun seeing a whole different side to LA than the one I’ve known so far; the people walking around are in suits and office gear, there are a lot of lawyers and agents and high-rise buildings. So really, the difference here is it feels like a real ‘city’, like many others in the world.

One lunch break took me to Century City mall, as I contemplated life and what I wanted to do. Right on cue, I looked up and was surprised to see some Arabic writing on a t-shirt.  It says ‘Today, I can do anything’. Granted, I think  it was a Nike ad… but still it was a beautiful nod from the universe, and I’m a great believer in signs! It made me smile.

Speaking of things that make me smile…

“Isn’t this wonderful?” Yes my big puppy. It is.

Being busy to a regular weekly schedule really makes you appreciate the weekends and evenings at home even more than you already thought you did. Simple moments with A and the doggies are making me feel waves of being present, and being blissful within those moments.

In other news, one morning I noticed a couple of old style full sized televisions discarded outside an apartment building near our place. I passed it at the same time as an older couple, and overheard him say to her “There are kids in the world who have no idea TVs used to look like that”. Whoah. Fascinating.

“It’s those magical boxes that used to contain only three channels, Dad!”

One morning AC drove me to work, and we stopped off for a coffee at Le Pain Quotidien in Beverly Hills. I forgot how exciting that feeling is of a lovely café/patisserie early in the morning… the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans and the sweet pastries lined up behind shiny glass.

Very nostalgic, though it’s getting to that point where I’ve lived in too many different places to pinpoint what exactly it’s nostalgic for.

Wonderful! Reminds me of… well, something wonderful.

On that last note of nostalgia, I definitely have a soft spot for the new moments LA has given me. Case in point:

Sunset Strip at Sunset

We had dinner with some fabulous friends at Bossa Nova on Sunset. While we waited for our table outside, it struck me again how surreal and wonderful I felt to be standing where I was, and how atmospheric it was.

So that takes us to the end of another Sunday, and what I hope is a great week of good news ahead.
